7) Hypoxia Flashcards
What is Hypoxia ?
It is a condition wherein there is not enough oxygen available to the blood and body tissues
Does it affect the whole body ?
Yes , it can. However there are also cases of it affecting only a local region (specific part)
What happens when there is Hypoxia ?
1) Lethargic feeling in the whole body as enough blood doesn’t reach the brain
2) Confusions and mental disruptions
3) Usually <90% reading in pulse oximeter shows insufficient oxygen levels leading to Hypoxia. However <80% reading is dangerous to life (damage to organs)
What is Pulse oximeter ?
It is a test/device used to measure the oxygen level of the blood . It measures the saturation of oxygen in RBCs
What is a new phenomena in regard to this ?
SILENT HYPOXIA – It is also an oxygen deprivation but is harder to detect than regular hypoxia as Patients appear to be less in distress
Why is this so significant ?
COVID-19 patients are found to have Silent Hypoxia symptoms
