Who releases Global Nutrition report ?
WHO – published since 2014
What are the parameters it reports on ?
1) Stunting – low height for age
2) Wasting – low weight for height
3) Underweight – low weight for age
4) Malnutrition – Both under and over nutrition
5) Anaemia – Lack of healthy RBC
What are global nutrition targets ?
These are 6 targets decided by World Health Assembly in 2012 aimed to achieve by 2025
What are the 6 nutrition targets ?
1) Reduce stunting by 40% in children under 5yrs
2) Reduce prevalence of anaemia by 50% among women in age group of 19-49 yrs
3) Ensure 30% reduction in low birth weight
4) Ensure no increase in childhood overweight
5) Increase the rate of exclusive breastfeeding in the first 6 months upto atleast 50%
6) Reduce and maintain childhood wasting to less than 5%
What did the Global Nutrition report say about India ?
India has highest rates of inequalities in Malnutrition
Key findings of the report ?
1) India is among the 88 countries that are likely to miss global nutrition targets by 2025
2) Stunting – 38%
3) Wasting – 21%
4) Overweight and obesity – (21.6% women, 17.8% men)
5) Anaemia- 1/2 women of reproductive age is anaemic
6) Underweight – (58% boys , 50% girls)
