When was the first Ghetto set up??
Feb 1940 in Lodz - the second largest polish city
Why was it set up??
Germans had 3 million jews all at once due to Operation Barbarossa. Laws had been passed basically forcing them into this anyway.
3 Laws that were basically forcing them into ghettos anyway??
In Nov 1939 banned from buying/owning radios.
In 1940 banned from wartime rationing and in berlin they could only enter shops 4pm - 5pm.
In 1941 they had to have a police permit to travel and in december jews in germany had to wear yellow star of david armband like jews in occupied territory.
What were the conditions like??
320,000 people in a tiny amount of space.
15 to an apartment and 6 to a room.
Lack of food and fuel.
No links to outside world and disease was very common - problem solving itself
