What is the context for this??
Nazis had complete power over courts, schools and government. Propaganda inspired commitment and people thought order of Nazis was better than chaos of Weimar.
How did the left resist??
SPD - Lawful resistance, voted against Enabling Act, supported cells and the Berlin red patrol.
KPD - Underground in industrial areas, unions in Berlin and Hamburg and secret factory cells.
What was Hitlers fears VS reality??
SPD and KPD with Unions strike.
Reality was left was too divided to pose a serious threat.
What was the overall reality of the resistance??
SPD - Thousands murdered or in preventitive custody. Survival and waiting rather than challenging. Schumacher in Prague.
KPD - First party banned, Thalmann arrested in early 1933, Gestapo broke up cells. Survival like SPD.
