Containment
The belief is that if a nearby nation became communist, then surrounding nations would do the same.
Domino Theory
U.S. policy that gave military and economic aid to countries threatened by communism.
Turman Doctrine
Plan that helped European countries rebuild after WWII. The U.S. offered economic aid to the war-torn countries.
Marshall Plan
A military alliance was formed between the U.S., Canada, and ten Western European countries.
North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)
A mutual defense treaty between eight communist states of Central and Eastern Europe in existence during the Cold War. It was a response to NATO.
Warsaw Pact
French and North Vietnamese agreed to split the country along the 17th parallel
Geneva Accords
Gave the president power to fight a war without getting a formal declaration from Congress
Gulf of Tonkin Resolution
Congress wanted to limit the power of the president’s power (Revamps the Golf of Tonkin)
War Powers Resolution(Act)
Era of political and military tension between powers in the West (Democracies/NATO) and powers in the East, dominated by the Soviet Union along with the Warsaw Pact.

US & USSSR (Soviet Union) built up nuclear weapons to have more weapons then other country.

The Soviet Union was secretly building nuclear weapons in Cuba. 13 days of intense negotiations
