Where are hormones produced?
endocrine glands
How are hormones transported from endocrine glands to their target organs?
carried by blood
How is adrenaline produced?
by the adrenal gland
How does adrenaline prepare the body for fight or flight?
increases heart rate and blood pressure
- increased blood flow to muscles & glucose production for increased respiration
How does Thyroxine control metabolic rate?
trh stimulates pituitary gland to release tsu
tsh stimulates thyroid gland to release thyroxine so blood hormones goes normal
What are the stages of the Menstrual Cycle?
1 - 1 menstruation starts
2 - 4-14 uterus lining repaired
3 - 14 egg developes and released
4 - 14-28 uterus lining maintained & will break down if unfertilised
What does Oestrogen do?
released by ovaries
causes lining of uterus to thicken
stimulates LH
What does Progesterone do?
released by corpus luteum after oc
maintains lining of uterus
inhibits (stop) release of fsh and lh
How does contraception influence the menstrual cycle?
oestrogen can be used to prevent eggs releasing
progesterone can stimulate production of cervical mucus, prevents sperm
