2 - Cells and Control - Nervous System Flashcards
What is the role of Neurotransmitters?
To carry a chemical signal from one neurone to the target cell
What is the structure/function of Sensory Neurones?
D: Impulses - receptor cells -> cell body
A: Impulses - cell body -> CNS
What is the structure/function of Relay Neurones in the CNS?
D: Impulses - sensory neurones -> cell body
A: Impulses - cell body -> motor neurones
What is the structure/function of Motor Neurones?
D: Impulses - CNS -> cell body
A: Impulses - cell body -> effector cells
What is the structure/function of synapses in the transmission of electrical impulses?
They connect neurones
What is the structure/function of the Axon?
Carry nerve impulses away from the cell body
What is the structure/function of the Dendron?
Carry nerve impulses towards the cell body
What is the structure/function of the Myelin Sheath?
Acts as an electrical insulator, speeding up the electrical impulse
What is the structure/function of a Reflex Arc?
The passage of information in a reflex (receptor -> effector)
What is the CNS?
Central Nervous System
Coordinates a response to a situation
