What are the riskiest activities for concussions? Why and give examples.
Riskiest activities for concussions are sports that have high levels of contact. These include; AFL, Basketball, Rugby, MMA, etc.
What is a concussion?
a mild form of TBI resulting from an external force to the head that causes the brain to bounce inside the skull
Name 7 Initial Concussion Symptoms
Headache
Memory loss
Blurry vision
Confusion
Nausea
Fatigue
Lack of coordination
What does CTE Stand for?
Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy
What is CTE?
a progressive and fatal brain disease from repeated head injuries and concussions OR a single severe traumatic brain injury
What disease is CTE considered as?
It is considered a neurodegenerative disease, and can become fatal.
Symptoms of CTE (6)
Impairments in executive functions
Memory loss
Depression
Difficulties with attention and concentration
Disturbances in behavior
Mood impairments
When can CTE be diagnosed?
While symptoms can be shown before death, true diagnosis can only be post-mortem (after death)
