Where would you use quick release fasteners on the aircraft?
Used to secure inspection plates, doors and other removable panels on an aircraft.
Why would you use quick release fastener on an aircraft?
They permit quick and easy removal of access panels for inspection and servicing purposes.
They come in Dzus, Camloc and Airloc
How is the installation and removal of circlip (snap rings) achieved?

The removal and installation of circlips (snap rings) is with the use of special circlip pliers.

Used when two disimilar metals are in contact with each other like aluminium and steel. Don’t want to cause corrosion so countersunk washer used.
In which type of operation are clevis pins (flathead pins) normally used?
Clevis pins (flathead pins) are used with tie-rod terminals and in secondary control, which are not subject to continuous operation.
What is a PLI washer and what is it used for?
Reusuable?
Pre-Loading indicating washers consists of concentric inner and outer rings, and two high strength steel washers.
It is used for pre-loading a bolt and is frequently used in engines.

How many times can a PLI washer be used?
A PLI (Pre load indicating washer) can only be used once.
In what situations are corrosion resistant steel split pins used?
Used in locations where nonmagnetic material is required or in locations where resistance to corrosion is desired.
Describe a preferred split pin installation?

One leg of the splt pin is bent up over the end of the bolt, the other leg is bent down over one of the flats of the nut.

Describe an optional split pin installation?
The split pin is rotated 90 degrees and the legs wrapped around the castellations.
What type of situation would taper pins be used?
Plain and threaded taper pins are used in joints which carry shear loads and no loose motion or play is allowed.
Name two recognised safety wiring methods?
Single wire method
Double twist method
Where would you use the single wire method of wire locking?
Used on small screws ina closely spaced geometrical pattern, on parts in electrical system and in placess that are extremely difficult to reach.
How long is a pigtail and how many twits should be on it when wire locking?
A pigtail of 1/4 to 1/2 an inch three to six twists should be made at the end.
What is a camloc fastener used for and hor would you lock it?
A Camloc fastener is a type of quick release fastener used for heavy-duty stuff.
They secure aircraft cowlings and fairings.
A quarter turn (clockwise) of the stud locks the fastener.
Are tab washers reusable?
Tab washers are not reusable.
How do you know when a PLI washer is tightened?
At the point that the outer ring can no longer be rotated the tightening is complete.

Hollow Saddle Key
Hollow saddle key has one face hollowed to suit the surface of the shaft.

A flat saddle key is square or rectangular and fits into a key way in the pulley and rides on a flat machined in the shaft.

Woodruff key
The pulley fits into a cavity in the shaft which conforms to the rounded portion of the key.
The top of the pulley fits into a key way in the pulley.
The woodruff key can be used on parallel or tapered shafts.
Are spring washers reusable?
Yes.
They may be used again as long as the washer retains the spring tension.
Are shake proof washers reusable?
Shake proof washers are not Reusable.
Are grooved pins reusable?
Groove pins are resistant to loosening from shock and vibration and may be removed and reused without reducing their holding force.
How many turns minimum should be applied to turnbuckle wrapping?
Four turns minimum
