6.5: Anatomy & Physiology: Blood, Blood Pressure, & Perfusion 🩸 Flashcards
Plasma
The liquid component of blood that is made mostly of water.
Red Blood Cells
Oxygen-carrying component of the blood.
White Blood Cells
Fight infections by defending against invading organisms.
Platelets
Essential for clot formation to stop bleeding.
Systolic Pressure
The top number in the blood pressure reading, determining how much pressure of blood is in the arteries DURING contractions.
Diastolic Pressure
The bottom number in the blood pressure reading, determining how much pressure of blood is in the arteries IN-BETWEEN contractions.
Perfusion
The flow of blood throughout the body.
Adequate Perfusion
Blood flow is adequate to all of the tissues and organs in the body.
Inadequate Perfusion (Hypoperfusion or Shock)
Inadequate blood flow throughout the body, which means the entire body is at risk.
