6.1: Renewable and nonrenewable resources Flashcards
What is a renewable energy source and what are the types
A resource that can be reused and naturally replenished either at or near the rate of consumption. The two types are depletable and nondepletable renewables.
Depletable Renewables
And examples
It can run out if overused. Some examples are biomass like wood, charcoal, ethanol.
Nondepletable Renewables
Add examples
Does not run out if overused. Some examples are wind, solar, hydroelectric, geothermal.
What is a nonrenewable energy source and what are the types?
A resource that we have limited amounts of and can’t easily be replaced or regenerated. The two types are fossil fuels and nuclear.
Fossil Fuels
Add examples
Fossilized remains of ancient biomass that took millions of years to form. The main types are coal, oil, natural gas.
Nuclear
Energy from uranium or radioactive fuels
