6. Radiation Protection - 20% Flashcards
Identify how time distance and shielding impact exposure to radiation.
Time: minimize duration working with radiation sources
Distance: increase distance between source of radiation and others
Shielding: provide shielding of suitable material density to attenuate X & Gamma rays
Identify the situational requirements for surveying a given controlled location.
.
Given a scenario with time, distance, or shielding, calculate dose levels.
.
Identify the intent of A.L.A.R.A.
As Low As Reasonably Achievable
Identify resources for controlling and monitoring access to given radiation areas, rooms or enclosures.
.
No person shall respond to any of the following situations (unless person has received specialized training or acting under guidance of person who has received training).
a) exposure device or sealed source assembly is damaged to an extent that could impair normal use
b) exposure device has dose date of more than 2 mSv/hr on any part of surface
c) sealed source assembly fails to return to the shielded position inside exposure device
