COOL the heat

Fire fighting team roles and actions?
FIRE FIGHTER- attacks fire
COMMUNICATOR- provides the most accurate information possible between crew
ASSISTANTS: takes over from the firefighter with relevant back up equipment (PBE, gloves)
If a galley circuit breaker pops:
- do not reset
- inform all crew
Priorities of survival
- protection
- location
- water
- food
Initial actions in electrical fire:
Switch off electrics
Pull galley circuit breaker
Keep door closed (if applicable)
Types of decompression
Slow decompression (valve is not sealed tightly)
Rapid decompression (explosion)
TUC times
40.000 ft- tuc sitting; 30 seconds - tuc active; 18 seconds
35.000 ft- tuc sitting 45 seconds - tuc active 30 seconds
What’s the call out at a rapid descent
“Cabin crew rapid descend rapid descend”
3 phases of search and rescue procedure:
Uncertainty phase
Alert phase

What’s the smoke protection drill
Instruct pax to: move away from smoke, keep heads down as low as possible and breathe through wet cloths
Crew members to: put on PBE
What are the roles of the fire fighter in a fire fighting drill?
- attract attention/initiate alert call
- identify the source
- switch off/unplug any electrics (pull circuit breakers)
- collect fire fighting equipment
- fight fire
What are the roles of the communicator in a fire fighting drill?
Full report to FCMs:
- location/type of fire/smoke/smell
- actions taken
- equipment used
- pax reactions and relocation
What are the roles of the assistant in a fire fighting drill?
- bring additional equipment
- put on PBE and fire gloves
- when fire is out, dampen any smouldering material
- (when other crew is available) instruct them to relocate pax, check surrounding area and move any portable oxygen and other combustible materials
What’s the difference if flames are present or not
If no flames are present do not discharge fire extinguisher. Monitor the situation.
