Q

how do you measure the density of an object?

A
  • measure the mass of the object on a digital balance, note mass
  • use a ruler or callipers to measure the dimensions of the object
  • repeat and take an average
    then calculate density

Q

how do you measure the density of an irregular object?

A
  • place the object on a digital balance, note mass
  • fill a eureka can with water to below the spout
  • carefully place object in can
  • measure the volume of displaced liquid water in the measuring cylinder
  • repeat measurements

Q

how do you measure the density of liquids?

A
  • place empty measuring cylinder on balance, note mass
  • fill with liquid and note down the volume
  • note down the new reading on the digital balance
  • repeat

the mass is the cylinder with water - cylinder
the volume is the reading on the measuring cylinder

7
Q

why is pressure like that in a fluid?

A

because when the object is immersed in fluid it will exert pressure, squeezing the object
