54. Obstetric statistics Flashcards
What are the maternal statistics
Birth rate
Fertility rate
Maternal mortality ratios
- indirect death rate
- direct death rate
- nonmaternal death rate
What are the infant statistics
Neonatal mortality rate
Perinatal mortality rate
Infant mortality rate
Survival rates at different gestational weeks for preterm infants
21 weeks or less - 0%
24 weeks 40-70%
27 weeks 90%
30 weeks 95%
34 weeks >98%
Define preterm and postterm infants
preterm - under 37 weeks
postterm over 42 weeks.
Stillbirth
delivery of a infant with no breathing, heartbeat, cord pulsation, or movement.
after 20th week or weight above 350g, otherwise its a spontaneous abortion.
Birth rate
Birth rate: number of births/1.000 population, men are included in the population calculation
Fertility rate
number of live births/1.000 women aged 15-44 years
Indirect maternal death rate

only the deaths occurring as complications of pregnancy, delivery or the puerperium are considered
Nonmaternal death rate
only deaths of pregnant or postpartum women that were neither caused nor aggravated by the pregnancy are considered (e.g. deaths secondary to motor vehicle accidents or homicides), per 1000 live births
Neonatal mortality rate:
infant deaths between 0-28 days of life/1.000 live births
o Early = first 7 days, late = 8-28 days
Perinatal mortality rate:
number of fetal deaths + number of neonatal deaths/1.000 total births
Infant mortality rate
number of infants who die prior to their first birthday/1.000 live births
