5.3 Anatomy of Urinary Tract Flashcards
Renal Circulation
Renal artery Segmental arteries Interlobar arteries Arcuate arteries Interlobular arteries Afferent arterioles Glomerular capillaries Efferent arterioles Peritubular capillaries Interlobular veins Arcuate veins Interlobar veins Renal vein
Coverings of the kidney
Fibrous capsule (renal capsule) Adipose capsule (perirenal fat) Renal fascia
Constrictions of the ureters
- Renal Pelvis with ureter
- Pelvic Brim
- Ureterovesticular junction (where the ureter enters the bladder)
Course of ureter
- Tips of transverse processes of lumbar vertebrae
- sacro-iliac joint
- Tips of ischial spines
Relationship of ureter and uterine artery
Uterine artery runs above the ureter (water under the bridge)
Female urethra
short, straight and wide
Male urethra
Long, thin, 2 curves
Curves of male urethra
In front of pubis symphysis and subpubic
Parts of male urethra
Prostatic, membranous, bulbar, penile
Sphincters of Male urethra
Internal: bladder neck (smooth muscle)
External: Prostatomembranous (striated muscle)
What is the path of urine drainage?
Collecting duct - papillary duct in renal pyramid - minor calyx - major calyx - renal pelvis - ureter - urinary bladder
What are the 5 segments of the kidney?
superior, anterosuperior, anteroinferior, posterior, inferior
Where are the kidneys located?
On the posterior abdominal wall anterior to the quadratus lumborum muscles. Lateral to psoas major.
Is the kidney intra or retroperitoneal?
retro
