More people left UK than moved into UK and costant flow kf british leaving UKnsince 1970.
What happened since 1983 in UK
More people have mobed to UK than left and net migration has been increasing
Distribution in UK
Young national and international migrants move to major cities-where most jobs and universities located.
Wealthy people move out of cities to seek better quality of life in rural areas and London has highest number of people leaving
Age strcuture in UK
-large numbers of young migrants increases the population in age group
- Migration also affects the age structure ok UK by increasing birth rate, 13% population are immigrants
Burnely industry decline
-textiles industry declined due to cheap imports in UK
- primary and seconday sector declined as several factories closed 1990 and 2000 with loss of hundred jobs.
-employment rate is 65% and wages are well below UK average.
Tertiary jobs incling
-1992 difference part of regions started work together more to achieve economic growth.
-Costs are lower than London and easier to start up new businesses
-helped to attract investors.
FDI growth
FDI is composed of the flows of money (capital) from businesses in one country to another.
The flow of finance allows the companies to become involved inn the business life & markets
of the receiving country – for the UK, this is the EU markets.
