5.2 Le Chatelier's Principle Flashcards
1
Q
What is Le Chatelier’s Principle?
A
Is the equilibrium law. It can be used to predict the effect of a change in conditions.

Q
C(s) + O2(g) <=> 2CO(g) #1 What will happen if O2 (g) is increased? #2 What will happen if CO (g) is taken away? #3 What will happen if C (s) is added? #4 What will happen if pressure is increased?
A
#1 shift right. #2 Shift right. #3 Nothing since its a solid. #4 If pressure is increased, volume will decrease. look at the mols of gas on either side of the reaction. there is 1 mol of gas on the left and 2 mols of gas on the right. an increase in pressure or a decrease in volume will allow the right to react more and push the reaction left. Shift left.
