Q

How many orbitals do S P D & F have and how many electrons can each of them hold?

Q

Paramagnetic vs diamagnetic?

A

Paramagnetic: Attracted towards magnet field…Unpaired electrons…An odd number of electrons.

Diamagnetic: Not attracted towards magnetic field…Slight deflection away from magnetic field… Electrons paired…An even number of electrons.

Q

Electron configuration rules to know…

A
  • Full D orbitals do not count towards valence electrons, but are considered core electrons.
  • When writing out the electron configuration for an ion, remove electrons from the higher numbered shell.
