Reproduce same symptoms
Test for joint stability
Provocation/Special Tests Palpate for…
AC joint- sprain or DJD
SC joint- sprain
Supraspinatus Tendon- tendonitis (flat broad region in from of accordion process). Health= feel nothing
Infraspinatus tendon- tendonitis, sitting 90° flex, horrid add, and ER. Find post/late corner of accordion and drop inferiorly 1cm.
Biceps tendon- tendonitis
Provocation/Special Tests: Resisted Isometric Testing
4 Findings
Strong, no pain
Strong, painful

Weak, no pain
Impingement Syndrome Tests
Neer (Overhead)
Hawkins-Kennedy
Coracoid
Posterior (Internal)
Neer (Overhead) Impingement Test
Sitting: stabilize spine of scap to prevent post tipping & trunk extension. Passively IR shoulder and elevate/flex in plane of scap. End-range over-pressure reproduces pain as subacromial structures are compressed. Thumb down (IR)= surpaspinatus Thumb up (ER)= long head of biceps
HAwkins-Kennedy Impingement Test
Sitting, elevate shoulder to 90° in plane of scap. Perform passive medial rotation to end range. Pain at overpressure indicates compression of supraspinatus against acromion???
Coracoid Impingement Test
Same as Hawkins-Kennedy but performed with horizontal adduction across midline.
Test of lesser tubercle impinging against medial coracoid process.
Posterior (Internal) Impingement Test
Supine, 90° ABD, 10° horizontal ADD,passively ER shld.
If “pinching pain” = + test
