-Already in a position of high judicial office (e.g. Lord Justice of Appeal)
-15 years experiences as an advocate in senior courts

-Must be a qualified solicitor or barrister and have at least 7 years of legal experience, or
-Be an existing High Court Judge

-Qualified as a barrister or solicitor and have 7 years experience
-District judges, recorders or tribunal judges are also eligible
-Usual role is a recorder and then promoted to circuit judge
