Q

how to read grid reference

A

remember down the corridor, up the stairs

4 figure ⬇️

  1. start at the bottom left of the map and go up until you see the bottom left corner of the square you want, then write the number at the bottom down e.g. ‘5 5’_ _
  2. move north until you get to the bottom left corner of the square you want
3.Look all the way to the left of that square and write down that number after the first one e.g. 5 5 ‘7 8’

six figure ⬇️

  1. to do a six figure reference, you need to leave a space after both numbers e.g. 5 5 _ 7 8 _ (so you do what you do for the 4 figure)
  2. Estimate how many tenths across the grid it is and write that down e.g. 5 5 ‘9’ 7 8 _
  3. Estimate how many tenths up the grid it is and write it down e.g. 5 5 9 7 8 ‘5’
17
Q

how do maps show height

A

contour lines

18
Q

how to tell whether on a map it is steep or not

A

*if the contour lines are close together, the spot
is steep
*if they are far apart, the slope is gentle

19
Q

how to measure straight lines

A

use a ruler and then use the scale e.g. 2cm=1km

20
Q

how to measure curvy lines

A
  1. take a piece of paper or something like that
  2. Every time the road turns, draw a line on the paper and then after you finish, measure it
  3. use the way to measure straight lines
21
