BishopsIn charge of?
A senior member of the clergy. 2nd most important in the clergy. In charge of diocese around a cathedral.
Blaspheming
Mocking God or the Lord. Using God’s name in vain.
Celibacy
No marriage or sexual relations.
Clergy
Members of the church including bishops, parish priests, monks and more.
Consecrated
To be given a role such as Archbishop or priest through a special religious ceremony.
Excommunication
To be excluded from communion and prayers in the church – it did not mean the person was expelled from the church.
PalliumGiven by and why?
A wooden vestment consisting of a band around the shoulders where is the band hanging from it front and back. The Pope gave these to archbishops to confirm his approval of their appointment.
Nepotism
When positions are giving to relatives and friends rather than suitable candidates.
Papacy
The Pope/the role of the pope.
Parish
The areas that a church is responsible for – usually a village or a manor.
Primacy
Who held the highest rank in the English Church.
Pluralism
Having more than one job in the church.
Secular
It means ‘worldly’ or ‘sacred’. Courts that aren’t religious and are not with the church.
Simony
The selling of church positions.
Supplies Fees
Fees paid to priests for carrying out ceremonies.
