Apprentice
A person who works for another in order to learn a trade.
Bordars
They worked for the lord - poorer than villeins and given less land by the Lord.
Burgesses
Freemen or citizens of an English borough. Often had some authority or privileges.
Cottars
Worked for the lord, poorer than villeins and given less land by the Lord.
Economic changes
Changes in money, e.g. Jobs, wealth and ownership.
Freemen
A tenant worker who was free and paid rent for land rather than giving service. They could move to villages or towns if they wanted.
Guilds
A society of merchants which controlled who was allowed to carry out business in the town.
Journeyman
A person who had fully served on apprenticeship in a trade or craft and now works for someone else.
Master
When a apprentice proved his skills by producing a masterpiece , he would become a master.
Pottage
A soup made from beans and peas and flavoured with herbs.
Slaves
People with no freedom or land.
Social Changes
Changes in society and people e.g. The way we live.
Villeins
Worked on the lords land for no pay and had no freedom to leave the village without permission. Granted some land for themselves.
