5 - Motor System Flashcards
1
Q
posterior cortex
A
- source of sensory info
- specifies movement goals & sends sensory information from vision, touch, & hearing to frontal regions
2
Q
prefrontal cortex
A
- planning of movement
- receives instructions from the posterior cortex & then generates plans for movements & passes it to the premotor & primary motor cortices
3
Q
premotor cortex
A
- movement sequencing
- houses a movement repertoire & recognizes others’ movements and selects either similar or different actions
4
Q
primary motor cortex
A
- generation of specific movements
- more elementary movements than premotor cortex, like hand & mouth movements
5
Q
basal ganglia
A
- a collection of sub-cortical nuclei in the forebrain
- important for controlling & coordinating movement
- can modulate movement force
- lesions to the basal ganglia can lead to Dyskinesias, Huntington’s Disease, Tourette’s Syndrome, & Parkinson’s Disease
6
Q
cerebellum
A
participates in acquiring & maintaining motor skills
