5 - Metal Frame Alignment & Lens Insertion Flashcards
What are the 2 steps to check the horizontal alignment of a metal frame? see diagram in powerpoint
- Place a ruler
across the front of the frame near
the height of the nosepads.
2.Both endpieces should be
equidistant from the straight edge
when it is aligned horizontally
What 2 things do you check for in horizontal alignment?
1 - skewed bridge
2 - rotated lens
Use heat to adjust the bridge in a metal frame T/F
FALSE
What are the 3 things that are checked during vertical alignment?
Face Form
X-ing
Variant Plane
X-ing needs to be addressed first if the glasses are out of alignment T/F
TRUE
What 3 angles are part of adjusting nosepads?
1-Frontal angle
2-Splay angle
3-Vertical angle
How do you view the frontal angle of the nosepads?
From the front of the frame - see diagram in powerpoint
What is the ideal amount of angle for the frontal angle?
20 degrees
How do you view the splay angle of the nosepads ?
Viewing from above - see diagram in powerpoint
What is the ideal amount of angle for the splay angle?
25 - 30 degrees
How do you view the vertical angle of the nosepads ?
From the side - see diagram in powerpoint
What are the 4 steps to inserting the lenses in a metal frames?
1) Remove the eyewire screw.
2) Check the lens size, use a
hand edger to reduce the size if
required.
3) Once the lens is seated well into
the eyewire, close the eyewire
screw.
4) Using polarized lenses or a
colmascope check the amount of
tension on the lenses from the
eyewire.
Review the 12 steps to removing and inserting lenses into a nylon frame.
What are 4 checks are done on a metal frame after lens insertion.
1)Eyewire is flat or uniformly rounded on the outside
2) Compare eyewire to other empty lens slot. make sure lens fit in all around and has not been twisted.
3) Make sure upper rim near bridge is not humped or stretched - altering original frame shape
4)Use an spare frame without the lenses of the same frame check to make sure they are the same shape.
What are the 2 pliers called used for the temple-fold angle for plastic and metal frames?
1 - angling pliers
2 - Finger piece
