(5) Aircraft Performance Flashcards
Defines the ability of the aircraft to perform based on the task in which is was deisgned
Performance
Defines performance envelope of aircraft; limits or establishes boundaries in which aircraft must be flown
Operating Limitations
Speed at w/c point of force equals force of thrust
Max. Level Flight Speed
Greatest gain in altitude for horizontal distance traveled
Vx / Best angle of climb
Greatest gain in altitude over a period of time
Vy / Best rate of climb
Speed at which aircraft can remain aloft while using the least amount of power necessary
Max. Endurance Speed
Provides greatest distance for a given amount of fuel load
Max. Range Speed
Altitude when the airplane is unable to climb any further
Absolute Ceiling
Altitude where airplane is able to maintain max. rate of climb 100ft per minute
Service Ceiling
Developed by deriving data from actual flight tests
Performance Charts
Provides distance required for aircraft to accelerate TO speed and become airborne
Take-off Distance Chart
Determines max. rate of climb for airplane under given set of conditions
Max. Rate of Climb Chart
Calculates hoe long will it take for A/C to climb selected cruise altitude
Time, Fuel, Distance to Climb Chart
Provides speed of A/C as well as fuel consumption rates at various power settings
Cruise Performance
Determines max. distance the A/C can remain based on power settings
Range Profile
