Location theory
logical explanation for the location pattern of economic activities & the manner in which its producing areas are interrelated
The von Thunen model
an economic model that suggested a pattern for the types of products that farmers would produce at different positions relative to the market (community) where they sold their goods
Bid Rent Curve
relates to the theory, and can be used to determine the starting position for each land use relative to the market.
Free-market economy
economy in which decisions regarding investment, production, and distribution are based on market-determined supply and demand
First Ring (Light Blue)
Market-oriented gardeners and milk producers/must reach the market quickly because they are perishable.
Second Ring (Dark Green)
Contained woodlots, where timber was cut for construction and fuel/for this commodity because of its weight.
Third Ring (Orange)
Used for various crops and for pasture/Specific commodity was rotated from one year to the next.
Fourth Ring (Light Green)
Outermost ring was devoted exclusively to animal grazing which requires a lot of space.
