5-24 KRAFTS Hodgkin Lymphoma Flashcards
What are the 4 things you must know about Hodgkin Lymphoma?
Younger patients, good prognosis
Contiguous spread (ie not “skipping”)
5 subtypes
Reed-Sternberg cell
What are the 4 things you must know about Hodgkin Lymphoma?
Younger patients, good prognosis
Contiguous spread (ie not “skipping”)
5 subtypes
Reed-Sternberg cell
What is a Reed-Sternberg cell?
That’s the classic, characteristic cell you see in one of the subtypes of HL
Large, binucleated cell w/ nucleoli
What is a “popcorn cell?”
A Reed-Sternberg variant. Looks like a popcorn kernel
Is prognosis dependent on subtype?
No. It’s dependent on staging
Of course, it’s easier to catch some subtypes at earlier stages than others..
What 4 things must you know about Nodular L-P Hodgkin Lymphoma?
Asymptomatic young ♂ w/ cervical lymphadenopathy
Good prognosis (easy to catch early in neck)
B-cell origin
Popcorn cells
What are the 3 things you must know about Nodular Sclerosis Hodgkin Lymphoma?
Most common subtype
Good Prognosis
Lacunar cells (when fixed, cells suck cytoplasm in –> looks like they’re in
lacunae)
What does Nodular Sclerosis Hodgkin Lymphoma do in the lymph nodes?
The sclerosis kinda divides the node into nodules
What are the 4 things you must know about Mixed Cellularity Hodgkin Lymphoma?
Worse prognosis
Usually disseminated @ presentation
Classic Reed-Sternberg cells
Mixture of background cells (like eosinophils, histiocytes)
What are “background cells?”
Benign cells surrounding the malignant Reed-Sternberg cells
What are the 3 things you must know about Lymphocyte-Rich Hodgkin Lymphoma?
Uncommon
Usually localized at presentation
Popcorn cells
What are the 4 things you must know about Lymphocyte Depletion Hodgkin Lymphoma?
Rare
Often disseminated @ presentation
Classic Reed-Sternberg
Collagen/reticulin background
What is Tx of Hodgkin Lymphoma?
Surgery, chemo, radiation
What is a danger of Tx for HL?
2nd malignancies (due to DNA dmg)
