#5 Flashcards
Main Advantages of of dual ignition system
Increased safety in case one fails you have a backup/More complete even combustion
Fuel tank vents purpose
To remove the vacuum that would be created as fuel is removed from the tank, vacuum would result in decreasing fuel flow and finally engine stoppage.
Fuel Grade Specification
Airplane engines are designed to operate using a specific grade of fuel as recommended by the manufacturer, it is possible to use the next higher grade, reference POH/AFM.
Fuel Types and Colors
80 (Obsolete) (Red)
100 (Obsolete) (Green)
100LL (Blue)
Jet A (Clear)
Jet A in Reciprocating Engines
Reciprocating Engines may use Jet A briefly but detonation and overheating will occur, usually there is a small amount of Avgas in fuel systems which when runs out will use the improper fuel.
Manual Primer
Manual Primer is to provide assistance in starting the engine, the primer draws fuel from the fuel strainer and injects it directly into the cylinder intake ports.
Circuit Breakers/Fuses
Circuit Breakers and Fuses protect electrical systems from overloads.
Electrical Equipment provides power to these Systems normally
Radio, Turn Coordinator, Fuel Gauges, Pitot Heat, Landing Light, Taxi Light, Strobe lights, Interior Lights, Instrument Lights, Position Lights, Flaps, Stall warning system, Oil temperature Gauge, Electrical fuel Pump
Ammeter Indication
Ammeter indicates the flow of the current in amperes from the alternator to the battery or from the battery to the electrical system.
Voltage Regulator
Voltage regulator is a device which monitors system voltage, detects changes, and makes the required adjustments in the output of the alternator to maintain a constant regulated system voltage. It must do this at low RPM, during taxi, or high RPM.
