Proclamation of 1763
- issued by British government
- closed west of Appalachian Mountains to colonists
Reasons:
-high pop in east
-stopped growth of colonies
-fewer resources: less farmland, fur + lumber

Stamp Act
•England collected $$$ by selling stamps that had to be purchased and attached to

Stamp Act Repealed
•Colonists HATED it! Colonists: -protested -boycotted goods -tarred + feathered tax collectors
Declaratory Act
- stated colonists still under Parliament’s control
* Parliament’s way to show power after they repealed Stamp Act (lol not)
Quartering Act
- required colonists to provide shelter to British soldiers
- colonists believed this was a way England taxed them without calling it a tax
- brits could save $, eat + watch colonists
Townshend Acts of 1767
Parliament taxed goods such as: -glass -tea (not repealed in 1770) -paint -lead -paper -silk Led to Boston Massacre
writs of assistance
customs officials used special search warrants to help collect taxes + stop smuggling
-agents could search any home, ship or warehouse without reason

- Ottawa Chief who organized Native Americans
- attacked for 2 years
- destroyed most British forts along frontier
- defeated at Fort Detriot
Boston Massacre
•March 5, 1770
•Colonists taunted + snowballs filled with ice and rocks at British soldiers
•The British shot into the crowd because someone yelled “FIRE!”
•5 colonists died
-Crispus Attucks was an African American sailor

The MA lawyer who defended the British soldiers on trial for the Boston Massacre
The Tea Act
- British India Tea Company could sell DIRECTLY to colonists
- Colonists objected and REFUSED to buy tea
- BOYCOTT
- refused to unload tea from ships
The Boston Tea Party
•December 16, 1773 •Sons Of Liberty... -dressed as Mohawk Indians -tossed 342 chests of tea into Boston Harbor (worth $75,000) •Led to Intolerable Acts

#1- No ships could enter or leave Boston Harbor until the $75,000 for the TEA dumped in harbor was paid back #2- Cancelled MA Charter - no town meetings #3- All trials of MA officials (if charged w/ criminal offense) moved to BRITAIN #4- Quartering Act - British soldiers moved into colonists' QUARTERS GOVERNOR Hutchinson OUT, GENERAL Gage IN
