Schist / Sate
Distinctive Landscapes
The physical landscape of the United kingdom is quite variable. The UK is divided by the Tees/Exe Line and features unique landscapes in different parts due to physical processes occurring in different geographical levels. The United Kingdom’s human geography is directly influenced by its physical surroundings.
Upland ‘West’ Uk
Consists of volcanic activity, which creates metamorphic rocks (schist and slate). The cooling magma creates igneous rock, mostly underground.
Crystalline - so the rocks are hard, and more resistant to erosion. Higher precipitation from prevailing wind-relief rainfall. When the air rises, it expands and cods (lower temperatures). It’s harder to build infrastructure.
Schist / Slate
Schist is a type of metamorphic rock, which has a foliage texture and is generally hard. The colour is often alternating lighter and darker bands, often shiny. Schist can be found in Prowle Point, South Devon. Slate is smooth to touch and hard and brittle. The colour of slate are shades of blue, green, red and brown. It can be found in Snow donia, North Wales
