4.9.4.9 Port forwarding Flashcards
1
Q
What is port forwarding?
A
Forward any packet with a certain port on the local network, so devices on the network can communicate directly. Because every device on a network has the same external IP, the port is used to distinguish between the devices on the network when communicating outside the network.
Specifies a different port number for each internal device. When a IP packet comes in it is compared to the ports, and if it matches, it is allowed in.
