What are archaea?
A
A group of single-called prokaryotes that were originally classified as bacteria which they resemble in appearance.

What properties do archaea have that separate them from bacteria?
A
Unique lipids in the membranes of their cells, no peptidoglycan in their cell walls, and genes and protein synthesis are more similar to the eukaryotes.

What are archaea sometimes referred to and why?
A
Extremophile prokaryotes, as they were first discovered living in extreme environments.
