Bright colours, dancing or moving, and songs/vocal signals to attract a mate.
What are courtship rituals?
A sequence of actions which is unique to each species.
How can you tell how closely related species are?
The more similar their courtship rituals are, the more closely related they are.
What is courtship behaviour essential for?
Successful mating and species recognition.
Why is courtship important?
To ensure successful reproduction, and ensure survival of the offspring.
What does courtship allow species to do?
Choose a strong and healthy mate.
What does courtship synchronise?
Mating behaviour, as it indicates a sexually mature species that is in season.
When will a female not respond to a male?
If they display an incorrect courtship dance.
