4.3 Transfer Of Skills Flashcards
Types of transfer
– Positive
– Negative
– proactive
– retractive
– bilateral
What is transfer?
The influence that one skill has on the learning and performance of another
Positive transfer
Enhances/benefits
– enhances the learning and performance of another
Example of positive transfer
Over arm, throwing travelling action
Negative transfer
Inhibits/hinders
– one skill, impedes, learning and performance of another
Example of negative transfer
Tennis wrist is firm
badminton wrist is flexible
Proactive transfer
Previous influence
– previously learned skills influence the learning of new skills
Example of proactive transfer
Over and throw influence javelin throw
Retroactive transfer
New influence
– Newly learnt skill influences skill already learned
Bilateral transfer
Skills can transferred from one side of the body to another
Example of bilateral transfer
Passing in football from right to left foot
What is a motor programme?
Series of movements which enables a skill to be formed and can be made up of a large number of subroutines. It must be adaptable so that it can be altered when the environment change contains all information required to make a movement: which muscles to use, the order in which muscles are used, phasing and degree of contraction of muscles
What is open loop control?
Subconscious adjustment to make refinement and keep control when doing a motor skill
Difference between symmetrical and asymmetrical transfer
Asymmetrical one side of the body, one limb use, separately – dominant symmetrical, changing from left to right both limbs trained at the same time
What is intertask transfer?
The influence of one skill on a new skill
