During the day when conditions are favourable for photosynthesis happens when the stomata opens by potassium ions moving into the guard cell via active transport causing water to move in by osmosis decreasing water potential making the guard cell turgid opening the stomata allowing carbon dioxide too diffuse into the sponge mesophyll diffusing into tissue and oxygen too diffuse out.
