4.3 Knowledge Flashcards
Define Knowledge
Facts, information and skills acquired through experience or education (theoretical / practical understanding of a subject)
What are the types of knowledge?
Explicit
Tacit
Describe the knowledge types features
Explicit: Objective Measurable Documented (reports, papers, rules) e.g. Knowing which detour to take if a road is closed
Tacit:
Not objective
Hard to measure and document
e.g. Knowing the best way to negotiate a trade union dispute
Define Knowledge Management System (KMS)
Software that specialises the way information is collected, stored and / or accessed
What is the concept of KM based on and who is it used by for what purpose?
Based on range of practices used by individual, business, large corporation
To identify, create, represent, and redistribute information for range of purposes
Who does the KMS people and technology involve?
Knowledge workers
Chief Knowledge Officer (CKO) - helps organisation create, store and use knowledge to achieve organisational goals (back to strategy again)
Knowledge repository - external & internal, access, collaboration, copyright and corporate espionage
What is the output result of each knowledge creation input?
Information + Information = Explicit Knowledge
Tacit Knowledge = Tacit Knowledge
Explicit Knowledge = Tacit Knowledge
Tacit Knowledge = Explicit Knowledge
What are the different types of Knowledge Management Systems?
Enterprise-Wide Knowledge Management Systems
Knowledge Work Systems
“Intelligent Techniques”
Define the different types of Knowledge Management Systems
Enterprise-Wide Knowledge Management Systems:
General-purpose, integrated, firmwide efforts to collect, store, disseminate, and use digital content and knowledge
Knowledge Work Systems:
Specialised workstations and systems that enable scientists, engineers, and other knowledge workers to create and discover new knowledge
“Intelligent Techniques”:
Tools for discovering patterns and applying knowledge to discrete decisions and knowledge domains
Give examples for each of the types of Knowledge Management Systems
Enterprise-Wide Knowledge Management Systems:
Enterprise Content Management Systems
Collaboration and social tools
Learning management systems
Knowledge Work Systems:
Computer-Aided Design (CAD)
Virtual Reality
"Intelligent Techniques" Data mining Neural networks Expert systems Machine learning Natural language processing Computer vision systems Robotics Genetic algorithms Intelligent agents
