Why may a business need to employ more employees
They want to start producing more
They want to start producing different things (diversification)
An employee may have left/been fired
Why is it important to hire the right people?
Staff retention will be higher. This means that you won’t need to spend money on recruiting someone else. Also an new employee will start of being less productive because they are getting used to there job
Motivation will be higher which leads to more productive employees and therefore a lower unit cost which might lead to more profit
Products may have a higher quality/better customer service. This effects the brand image and may lead to positive word of mount advertising
What is internal and external recruitment
Internal recruitment is when you promote someone who already works for you to fill a position
External recruitment is when you recruit someone who doesn’t work for you to fill a position
Why might you use internal recruitment
You know hat there person can do
Won’t need much induction training
Will already know and have relations with co workers
How might you recruit someone?
Internally - referral, advertisements on business notice board
Externally - news letter, job centres
What are the benefits of external recruitment?
They bring new skills and ideas into the business
You have a wider range of options so you can find the best employee
What are the 4 steps of recruitment?
1) business needs a new employee
2) Job description and person specification are made
3) Job is advertised
4) Applications are received
What is a job description?
Made up from the job analysis. This document states information about the job.
What is a person specification?
A document that states what skills and qualifications are needed by an employee.
What might an employee send in to give information about themself?
A CV (curriculum Vitae)
How might you select the right person to work from you once you have all of the applications?
CV
Then choose the CV’s that match the Job specification and person specification
Interviews, Psychometric tests, assessment centres
What are assessment center?
Why might a business use this?
When you get a candidate to do activity’s.
You may be:
Given a simulation of the job
Psychometric tests
A number of interviews
A role play of the job
Potential employees may find this stressful therefore a business can see how participants react under stress.

What are the disadvantages of having a bad recruitment system?
Higher costs (on average it takes up to £30,000 to replace an employee)
Reduction in quality/customer service
Reduction in your rates of production leading to a higher unit cost which may lead to less profit
What is a contract of employment?
A legal agreement between an employee and a business which must be agreed upon the first 2 months of employment
