What is a Allophone

A

are a set of phones which are all versions of the same phone. voiceless stops become unaspirated after s.
example: the phoneme p can be realised in two ways [p] pH} unaspirated and aspirated. these two versions are allophones of p. t can be realised in 3 ways: aspirated, unaspirated and flat(more of a voiced stop, d)

What is a minimal pair

A

are words that are exactly the same apart from one phone and that phone leads to a difference in meaning.
example bear- pear b and p are the phone that cause the contracst therefore these are phonemes in this language
