4.1 Flashcards
A=T, G=C
When did the mice die?
When given the smooth strain and the rough and heat killed smooth strain mixed
When did the mice live?
When given the rough strain and the heat killed smooth strain seperately
What disease was Griffith researching?
Pneumonia
Why does a virus inject genetic material into a host?
Reproduction
How did the scientists determine that DNA was the genetic material that viruses use?
They found that only radioactive phosphorous was inside the bacterial host cells.
Similarities in DNA and RNA
Made of nucleotides, phosphate, sugar base, sugar phosphate backbone, base pairing with H-bonds, and G=C
Differences in DNA and RNA
DNA has hydrogen and RNA has hydroxyl
DNA has T=A and RNA has U+A
DNA has deoxyribose and RNA has ribose
DNA has 2 strands double helix and RNA has 1 strand shape determined by folding
Strands of DNA are antiparallel meaning they run in opposite directions
The inside is held together by H-Bonds and the backbone by Covalent bonds
T and C are Pyrimides and A and G are Purites
