Why does WWL encourage training for staff?

A

Believes having well motivated and agile workforce is an important wa to stay innovative and competitive
Has a Mutuality Pact to work on building a strong relationship with its employees

Pact: “We will look after you, our employees. its through your collective hardworking and dedication that we grow and become profitable. We therefore promise to share in our growth and profits through an equitable and transparent profit-sharing scheme’

In return, they expect staff to be highly flexible and proactive

Describe the CPT scheme

A

In seeking flexibility, previously required staff to undertake obligatory retraining in order to take on different roles on a rotational basis
Created some resentment among staff, who found it to be challenging and disruptive
Especially challenging for those on flexible working arrangements (e.g. job sharing, returning parents, staff w caring responsibilities)

Kas Mukesh (appointed 2018) replaced this with voluntary Carpeting Professional Training (CPT)- staff got CPT points if they were proactive in developing themselves further by taking on new roles

Internal training courses are available to staff to equip themselves with competencies and skills needed to work in more than 1 area of the business

Kas also introduced annual staff ‘pulse’ survey in 2019 to measure level of staff engagement. Repeated every Oct, over 90% of e’res completing it anonymously
Pulse scores (/100) 2019: 71 , 2020 56 , 2021: 69

Subject to their being a minimum annual growth in gross profit of £250k

  • Restructuring admin team in 19 lowered staff numbers but didn’t help as no bonus in 19 or 20. But divs got paid out which isn’t fair. (tufting mach operator, 56yrs, 0 CPT points, WWL in 2009)
  • I did CPT training for bespoke design, raised my bonus, but was asked to stay in retail tufting work as short staffed. So never got involved in the design project. tufting mach op, 21yrs, 4 CPT points, WWL in 2019
  • Great we made it through 2020 given eeverything, great 2021 bonus. Lucky to be here, but make own luck. (Marketing exec, 25yrs, 34CPT points, WWL in 2018)
