4 leg and foot Flashcards
Lateral compartment of leg
names, insertion, innervation and movement
Fibularis longus –> 1st metatarsal
Fibularis brevis –> 5th metatarsal
superficial fibular nerve
evertion
weak plantar flexion
Nerve supply the anterior compartment of the leg
deep fibular nerve
Blood supply to the lateral compartment
Fibular artery branching from the posterior tibial artery
Where to test for competence of deep fibular nerve?
between 1st and 2nd toe
what is the pulse near the navicuar?
Dorsalis pedis pulse
for assessing peripheral vascular disease
Anterior compartment of leg
muscles, innervation
All dorsiflex Tibialis Anterior: inversion extensor digitorum longus: extend digits extensor hallucis longus: extend great toe (Fibularis tertius) : eversion
What are the tripceps surae
- Gastrocnemius: flex knee joint
2a. Soleus
2b. Plantaris
lift the whole body up by plantar flexion , propel body foward,
Function of plantar aponeurosis
- protect plantar surface
- maintain arch of foot
- segmented lever, (extra leverage for the action of triceps surae?)
Test for Achilles/Calcaneal tendon
- Stand on toes, observe achilles tendon see if it is narrowed or have gaps
- lay in prone position, ask them to plantarflex against resistance, while palpating the tendon. see how well they resist and if there is narrowing of the tendon
(3. calf squeeze test see if foot moves when calf is squeezed)
Achilles/Calcaneal tendon injury
symptoms and cause
pain above heel, especially when you stretch your ankle, stand on your toes or pushing off toes when taking a step, swell, stiffness, tender
- calcified in elderly
- damaged in sudden trauma, quick start sport
Lateral ligament of the ankle
1) calcaneofibular ligament
2) posterior talofibular ligament
3) anterior talofibular ligament
Medial ligament of the ankle
deltoid ligament
4 parts
anterior tibiotalar, tibionavicular, tibiocalcaneal, posterior tibiotalar
