4. Intro to Renal BF - DSA Flashcards
In what order does fluid pass through the layers to be filtered?
Capillary lumen –> capillary endothelium –> glomerular basement membrane –> podocyte epithelium –> bowman’s capsule
Biogel
lines the capillary lumen - made of glomerular endothelium glycolayx.
Glycolayx has sialated glycoproteins, hyaluronan, and heparan sulfate. will be bound to the glomerular basement membrane
Nephrin
CAM for glomerulus filtration slits. very good for filtration bc has a size restriction
P-cadherin and a-actinin are also CAMs for filtration slits
What size molecules are freely filtered through filtration slits? Not filtered?
<20 A
>42 A
What happens if you remove the negative charge barrier form the filtration barrier?
Influx of anions –> can lead to protein urea
Filtered load equation
[Plasma of X) x GFR
Represents amt. of substance filtered into bowman’s space per unit of time
Urinary excretion equation
Amount filtered - amount reabsorbed + amount secreted
