Q

What creates the renal pelvis?

A

when the ureteric bud contacts the metanephric blastema

8
Q

What forms major calyces? Minor calyces?

A

When the ureteric bud bifurcates and coalesces, the first time it does that will form major calyces

When the bud branches again, those branches coalesce to form the minor calyces

Q

How does the nephron originate?

A

As a vesicle within the blastemic cap around the ampulla of the collecting duct

Will elongate forming a tube, while glomerulus forms at one end. tubule at that end will invaginate to make bowman’s capsule

Other end will lengthen and form PCT, loop of henle, and DCT

Q

Renal Agenesis

A

Unilateral renal agenesis will cause no symptoms

bilateral renal angesis is associated w/ oligohydraminos (so typically underdeveloped lungs)

Can survive if put on dialysis and given transplants

Q

Duplex kidney

A

normally functions

results from an abnormal division of ureteric bud – usually the metanephrous doesn’t form, maybe due to ureteric bud

Q

Pelvic kidney

A

Kidney didn’t ascend, likely due to vessels preventing motion

Horseshoe kidney

A

Inferior mesenteric artery will strop the kidney at L3, doesn’t cause problems

15
Q

Accessory renal vessels

A

Can compress the ureter, causing problems

will also be an end vessel, so if obstructed that portion of the kidney will become necrotic

16
Q

Autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease

A

Mutation of PKHD1 gene - both kidney’s have small cysts

Kidneys will be insufficient

Sometimes associated w/ pulmonary hypoplasia

17
Q

Multicystic dysplastic kidney disease

A

Abnormal development of the renal system, have dilation of loop of henle. most of the time only one kidney is affected and will have less cysts than recessive polycystic

18
Q

Why is the trigone made of mesoderm when the bladder is made of hindgut endoderm?

A

The trigone is formed from the ureter which is made of mesoderm. so when the ureters reach the bladder, that area becomes the trigone

19
Q

Vesicle part of urogenital sinus

A

Forms bladder

20
Q

Pelvis part of urogenital sinus

A

forms the urethra in females and the pelvic and membranous urethra in males

21
Q

Phallic part of urogenital sinus

A

Forms the lining of the vaginal vestibule in females and the spongy urethra in males

22
Q

Urachal fistula

A

Allantois abnormality - will cause urine to leak out of belly button

23
Q

Urachal cysts

Urachal sinus

A

Found at median umbilical ligament

sinus can cause opening and make a fistula

24
Q

Exstrophy of bladder

A

Ectopic vesicae will arise from error in body folding during week 4 that causes defective wall closes

25
Q

Epispadias

A

Due to improper location of genital tubucles caudal to the cloacal - so opening is on dorsal side and urine leaks out

26
Q

Patent urachus

A

Opening between bladder and belly button

27
Q

What is the supradrenal medulla made of

A

neural crest

28
Q

What is the suprarenal gland capsule made of

A

mesonephric mesoderm
