** Use of vaccination in case of confirmation of FMD **
• Trade in vaccinated animals is prohibited
• Vaccinated animals from tested herds may be moved within the Member state
• System of traceability ensures the vaccinated animals are excluded from Community trade
• Emergency vaccination requires
- Classification of herds with animals clearly identified and registered
- Animals must not be moved, specific measures must be implemented with regards to the movement of animals, fresh meat, milk, milk products and other products of animal origin
- A clinical and serological survey must be undertaken, and 2 forms of protocol may be followed
1) Protective vaccination
- Region of the vaccination zone, 2nd surveillance zone at least 10km wide
2) Suppressive vaccination
- Part of an immediate stamping out strategy,
- Ensures the minimum spread of virus during disposal of infected animals
- Carried out within protection zone on clearly identified holdings
** Official measures in case of confirmation of Newcastle disease on a holding **
- All poultry must be killed on the spot
- All carcasses and eggs must be destroyed
- Any substance or waste likely to be infected/ contaminated must be destroyed or treated appropriately
- The meat of animals animals/ poultry slaughtered and any eggs laid during the presumed incubation period are traced and destroyed
- Any poultry hatched from such eggs are placed under official surveillance
- Thorough cleaning and disinfection
Reintroduction
• At least 21 days after the end of the disinfection operations

- Application of the control and eradication measures provided for poultry; OR
- At least a ban on movement of the pigeons or birds kept in captivity for at least 60 days
- Destruction of treatment of any mater or waste likely to be contaminated

- Use of swill is prohibited for feeding of poultry

• Determination of the infected area
• Official surveillance of the pig holdings in the affected area
• Official census
• Isolation of domestic pigs from feral pigs
• No pigs must enter or leave the holding without authorization
• Written plan of measured to be undertaken to eradicate the dx in the infected area
• Collection of information on the:
o Geographical distribution of the dx
o Information campaign to increase hunters’ awareness of the measures to be taken
o Approximate number of feral pig populations in and around the infected area
o Method for removal of feral pigs found dead or shot
