4 - Development and Training Flashcards
Explain the importance of development and training in our colleges, churches, centers, and SNUi.
That it follows the structure and foundation of the SNU. We’re trained by SNU tutors to guide us, and help us make sure we follow the structure. In the churches, we’re in a safe environment to learn, and also in the open circles. Also it gives us the opportunity to move onto Fledgling evenings which is slightly out of our comfort zone but still under the wing of our SNU tutors.
Why is it important for a student to prepare for both speaking and demonstrating in our churches and centers and on the SNUi?
Speaking and demonstrating are both related because the demonstration proves what we’ve said in the speaking, and during the speaking we talk about one of the principles. They’re interrelated and you need to be able to do both so you can prove life after death and prove what the medium’s do.
Describe the importance of self-development as a Spiritualist.
We continue to learn, it’s lifelong learning. We may begin by looking at the 7 Principles and interpreting them a certain way, but as we continue through this physical life and learn, our interpretation will change and we will develop spiritually. And as exponents of the SNU, it’s very important we keep up to date and give the right messages to the congregation.
Explain the purpose and practice of attunement, sitting in the power, and meditation with spiritual development. Can you tell me the difference between them please?
Attunement is like “tuning in” to the frequency of Spirit. The practice of tuning in to that frequency for the sole purpose of being in the frequency is called sitting in the power.
Sitting in the power is when you sit down, for instance as a healer, maybe healing or just to take partake of the energies that there are within the church or the center or wherever you’re doing the healing and attune with Spirit and allow the Spirit power to be around you and about you for no particular purpose, other than simply to feel that power and that energy.
Basically, what’s the difference between attunement and meditation?
When we attune, we’re attuning with those people in the Spirit world who want to commune with us. Meditation is for our own self, for our own relaxation, our own upliftment, to make us feel well, and so it’s for our own self. Whereas attunement is for communication and communion with the Spirit World.
What is Lord Toulson’s ruling?
In 2013, Lord Toulson revised the definition of a religious service and stated in his ruling:
“I would describe religion in summary as a spiritual or non-secular belief system, held by a group of adherents, which claims to explain mankind’s place in the universe and relationship with the infinite, and to teach its adherents how they are to live their lives in conformity with the spiritual understanding associated with the belief system.”
For Spiritualism to be defined as a religion, there has to be an opening prayer, an address that everyone in the congregation can get something from, it must incorporate one of the seven principles because that’s our philosophy of spiritualism because they talk about how we should live our lives and everyone should be touched by what we say and should learn something from it.
How do you deal with a heckler during a service when you are the demonstrator?
Give the floor back to the chairperson so they can deal with the situation.
What evidence is there to qualify Spiritualism as a science? Please explain your answer.
Spiritualism is based upon communicated knowledge from the spirit world. Spiritualism accepts no theories which cannot be sustained by proven facts and corroborative testimony.
