- unipolar depression
- bipolar depression (manic depression)
define unipolar depression
the type of depression that results in the patient feeling overwhelming and constant emotions in only one mood state
define bipolar depression
type of depression resulting in extreme high mood swings of mania to depressive states
what are the main characteristics of depression?
- Behavioural
- Emotional
- Cognitive
describe the behavioural characteristics of depression?
- Activity Levels, reduced levels of energy
- Disruption to sleeping/ eating behaviours, increase/ decrease of eating or sleeping
- Aggression and self harm
describe the emotional characteristics of depression
- Lowered mood, such as worthiness
- Anger, negative feelings lead to anger
- Lowered self esteem, emotional experience of liking oursleves

- Poor concentration, result of selective attention
