Atypical pneumonia causes?
A
Mycoplasma pneumoniae - young, target like lesions
Legionella - fault A/Cs, low sodium
Chlamydia psittaci - birds
PCP - seen in HIV patients

Gram negative and positive meaning?
A
Cocci are positive
Bacillus are negative

Atypical pneumonia symptoms?
A
Dry cough Low grade fever Headache Diarrhoea Malaise

CAP Management?
A
Amoxicillin
Clarithromycin (atypical cover)
Doxycycline
(bottom two are for penicillin allergy, use top two if bad CURB-65)
Erythromycin in pregnancy

Bronchiectasis symptoms?
A
Large amounts of foul-smelling sputum (has pus in it).
Recurrent chest infections.
Causing clubbing (also caused by cancer, fibrosis, TB, CF, lung abscess)
Coarse crackles
High resolution CT is gold standard

TB signs and symptoms?
A
Productive cough SOB Haemoptysis Pleural effusion Fever, weight loss, night sweets, lethargy, anorexia (same as cancer) Erythema nodosum
