4. CARDIAC and RENAL: capillary (incl. lymph) exchange Flashcards
draw the capillary return cycle
card Numeral II.
Which vessel has the highest BP? WHich has lowest?
aorta;
Where is blood velocity lowest?
capillaries
Where is the area of blood vessels largest?
capillaries
Dose blood go faster or slower in a larger area?
slower
When at rest, what % of blood is in veins?
2/3
When exercising, what % of blood is in veins?
1/2
Why on earth would interstitial fliud flow INTO a venule?
osmosis- the venule has higher solutes (8% vs 1%), and there is no hydrostatic opposition because the fluid that came into the capillaries has leaked aout along with the pressure it was under
What is the role of lymphatic capillaries?
Since more fluid enters tissues than leaves tissues, it absorbs the extra fluid and transports to thoracic duct where it is emptied back into blood
